Hydrosols are also called floral waters and that might give you some ideas on how to use hydrosols.
If you are distilling your own plant material, you get hydrosol in addition to essential oil. Hydrosol is the by-product of essential oil distillation and in reality you get more of it than you do the actual essential oil.
Hydrosols contain the same properties as essential oil but are diluted enough that they are safe to use directly on the skin.
Below are ways I like to use hydrosols.
There are also links to products I recommend from companies I have a referral relationship with. I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.
Some good hydrosols to try are rose, chamomile, lavender, clary sage, orange blossom and rosemary. I also really like oregano and mint hydrosols.
Here are some recommended ways to use hydrosols:
- Hydrosols help tone, rehydrate and rebalance the pH of skin.
- Use hydrosols as a face toner or refresher. Simply dab an organic cotton ball with some of the hydrosol and wipe your face. You can do this twice a day, everyday.
- You can add hydrosols to your bath water for a fragrant bath and an all over body refresher.
- You can mist yourself or mist the air with hydrosols. A gentle fragrance will be left behind.
When using hydrosols there are a couple precautions to keep in mind.
- Do not use hydrosols on or around the eyes.
- As with any new beauty product watch for an allergic reaction and if you see one, discontinue use.
Conclusion:
Keep in mind that even though the hydrosol is a diluted version of a pure essential oil there are still small areas of pure essential oil mixed in with the floral water especially if you do your own distillation and separation like I do. I advise always shaking your hydrosol before using it to help break up those larger areas of essential oil that often gather on the surface of the hydrosol.
