Easy Handmade Wedding Cake Card

Sharing is caring!

There's something special about a handmade card and giving one to the bride and groom for their wedding makes it precious. A wedding cake card is something that they can display in their home to remind them of their special day. Plus it is easy to tuck small presents or even money inside the card so you can skip gift wrapping the smaller presents unless of course you just want to. One idea I had was to buy a small picture frame, put the happy couples photo inside it and put that in the card. What a great gift that would be!

To begin with I bought a round cardboard box with a lid at my local craft supply store. This box becomes the cake.

Next I chose a paper doily and cut a piece of cardboard the same size, then glued them together. I then removed the lid from the round cardboard box, covered it inside and out with handmade paper, then glued lace to the outer edge of the lid. The next step was to glue the lid to the center of the paper doily circle. Then I set this section of the cake card aside to dry.

The next step was to cover the outside of the remaining cardboard box with more handmade paper. I did overlap a little bit around the edge but did not cover the inside of the box with paper this time around. It helps to put your first piece of handmade paper on the bottom of the box as this will be the top of the cake when it is finished, then paper the sides of the box. Now you can add flowers, bling, stickers or whatever your heart desires to the outside of the cake. A little extra glue may be necessary to help the decorations adhere to the handmade paper.

I added a huge flower on top of the cake which helped to hide the edges of the paper and made a nice statement on its own.

That's all there was to this project and I now have a nice handmade wedding cake card that I can give to a lucky couple or sell to someone so they can gift it.
