Fleas are dangerous, so I was excited when Precious Angel’s first Seresto Collar arrived back in June because I had tried so many other flea products in the past that just did not work.
I had noticed the Seresto collars at PetSmart, but I really didn’t think they were any better than what the vet was selling me plus they were expensive.
Precious Angel Had A Flea Problem Even After Trying Other Products
The problem with what I was getting from the vet was that Precious Angel still had fleas – and skin problems that just would not go away.
The vet was aware of this but never suggested a flea collar.
When I was given the opportunity to try the Seresto Collar from Bayer for free, I decided what did we have to lose.
The day the collar arrived, I read the instructions, took it out of its package and put it on Precious Angel.
Then I waited.
The Seresto Collar Quickly Killed The Fleas
Within a couple of days I noticed he stopped scratching.
He also stopped chewing himself for the most part.
There was the occasional hot spot he went after but as soon as I used a hot spot spray on the area he quit for a while.
I used a flea comb on him daily – a practice I had started when he was a pup.
It wasn’t long before I stopped getting fleas and flea eggs in the tines of the flea comb.
I knew then the collar was working.
I was also convinced from what I was already noticing that the Seresto Collar was the best defense against fleas and ticks out of all the products I had tried over the 14 years since he was born.
Fleas Are Dangerous But I Thoughts Pets Meant Dealing With Fleas
I believed fleas were just a fact of life if you owned pets.
I had no idea how dangerous they were or that they could cause skin problems.
I knew fleas would infest your home and even get on humans.
I’ve certainly had more than one of these pesky pests bite me in my lifetime.
Here are some facts I have learned about fleas since using Seresto Collars.
I want to share them with you so you understand the importance of protecting your pets and your family.
Life Stages of Fleas
Fleas have a total of four life stages:
- first is the egg
- then larva
- followed by pupa
- finally they emerge as the biting adult
Fleas feed on the blood of their host.
A host can be a human, birds, reptiles, wild or domestic animals.
They just don’t seem that picky.
Flea Gestation Cycle
Given the fact that a female flea can lay 2,000 eggs in her lifetime and live for more than 100 days without a blood meal, you can begin to understand why some fleas feed on whatever they have access to.
In a single day, a female flea consumes 15 times her own body weight in blood.
This is not good news for you or your pet.
Fleas Are Dangerous And Here Is How They Spread
Talk about the ability to jump, did you know a flea can just 8 inches high?
That is equal to 150 times its own height.
This is why fleas can so easily attach to humans and animals or even infest your furniture that your pets are not allowed on.
Seresto Flea Collar And Flea Comb
While the best way to deal with fleas is to do what I did and use a flea comb, it is still important to use flea protection.
The combination of using the flea comb and the Seresto Collar assured me that Precious Angel was flea and tick free.
In the event that the collar was getting to the end of its life span, using the flea comb assured me I would notice if an infestation was starting up again and then I could quickly buy another Seresto Collar before the flea infestation got out of hand.
Another Reason Fleas Are Dangerous Is Because They Cause Pets To Have Allergies
Here is another fact you may not know.
There are more than 2,000 known species and subspecies of fleas – however the cat flea is the one that accounts for more of the dog and cat flea cases in the United States.
Some pets develop allergies to flea saliva.
You may notice this because the skin has severe irritation and is itchy.
Other problems pets can develop from flea infestation include anemia, tapeworms or intense bouts of itching (pruritus).
Importance Of Cleaning After A Flea Infestation
I know the Seresto Collar from Bayer brought relief to Precious Angel.
As I stated above, there were no more signs of fleas or flea eggs.
Once the collar was on him, I washed the couch covers and bedspread every couple of days. I swept the floor daily.
I wanted to be sure any remaining flea dirt was gone.
This cleaning practice had been in place for a while but didn’t seem to help as much previously as it did since he started wearing the Seresto Collar.
I did notice there was less noticeable flea dirt, hair and dander showing up on the bedspread and couch covers.
This was another way I knew the Seresto Collar was working.
Final Thoughts About The Seresto Collar And The Fact That Fleas Are Dangerous
There is simply no denying that fleas are dangerous.
Just like there is no denying how quickly and throughly the Seresto Collar worked to rid Precious Angel of his fleas.
I fully intend to continue to use the Seresto Collar on my pets because I saw the proof that it worked.
I encourage you to purchase a Seresto Collar for your pets as well.
After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
