Healthy Apple Pie

A healthy apple pie starts with a healthy pie crust. Yes, there is such a thing. This recipe makes enough dough for two pie crusts. Make the crust and then the apple pie filling.

Ingredients

Pie Crust:

  • 4 c Organic Pastry Flour Whole Wheat
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 2 tbsp corn oil
  • 1/4 c corn oil
  • 3/4 c ice cold water

Apple Pie Filling:

  • 12 medium apples, sliced. Peeling is optional
  • 1/2 c Organic Brown Rice Syrup or honey
  • 2 tbsp Arrowroot Starch Flour
  • 1/2 t cinnamon

Instructions

Pie Crust:

  1. Mix the flour and salt, then add the oil. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add water until it forms a dough that is not too sticky.
  3. Knead the dough into a ball and let it rest for a few minutes.
  4. Then divide it in half, roll the dough out and use one part for the bottom crust and the other part for the top.

Apple Pie Filling:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.
  2. Pour the mixture into the pie shell.
  3. Cover the apple pie filling with the top crust, crimp and seal.
  4. Vent the top by cutting 4 small slits in the dough.
  5. Bake at 375 degrees for half an hour.
