Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup pure cane sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/8 scant teaspoon crushed star anise and whole saffron strands (I used more star anise than saffron - see the photo above to help you gauge the amount of star anise that I used.)
  • 2 cups organic orange juice

Instructions

  1. Put the sugar and water in a pan and bring it to a boil stirring occasionally to help the sugar dissolve.
  2. Once the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is boiling, remove it from the heat.
  3. Add the spice mixture, stir to combine and cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil.
  4. Set the pan aside and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Pour the orange juice into a tall glass or pitcher - if you are making enough for more than one person.
  6. Using a funnel and cheesecloth, strain the sugar spice mixture into the orange juice.
  7. Stir well to combine the flavors.
  8. Add ice and enjoy!
