Ingredients

- 1/4 cup pure cane sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/8 scant teaspoon crushed star anise and whole saffron strands (I used more star anise than saffron - see the photo above to help you gauge the amount of star anise that I used.)
- 2 cups organic orange juice
Instructions
- Put the sugar and water in a pan and bring it to a boil stirring occasionally to help the sugar dissolve.
- Once the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is boiling, remove it from the heat.
- Add the spice mixture, stir to combine and cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil.
- Set the pan aside and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
- Pour the orange juice into a tall glass or pitcher - if you are making enough for more than one person.
- Using a funnel and cheesecloth, strain the sugar spice mixture into the orange juice.
- Stir well to combine the flavors.
- Add ice and enjoy!
