Nuts contain a lot of good fats and are a healthful addition to this nutty apple crunch dessert. Arrowroot is a natural thickening agent that is a healthy substitute for cornstarch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 medium apples, skins optional
  • 2 tbsp Bob's Red Mill Arrowroot Starch Flour
  • 1 c rolled oats
  • 1/4 c almonds
  • 1/4 c hazelnuts
  • 2 tbsp Organic Brown Rice Syrup or honey
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Slice the apples. Add salt and arrowroot; mix well and place the mixture in a baking dish.
  2. Pan-roast the oats in a dry skillet over medium heat until golden brown. Stir constantly.
  3. Roast the nuts the same way if they are not already roasted.
  4. Chop the nuts and add them to the roasted oats.
  5. Mix in the brown rice syrup or honey and sprinkle this mixture over the apples in the baking dish.
  6. Cover and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, then remove the cover and bake for 5 to 10 minutes more.
