I finally got to see the cover of my new book The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Seed Saving & Starting. I couldn’t be more thrilled. The front cover and the smaller photo on the back cover are ones I took. I wasn’t sure how to photograph a book cover. This is where the senior acquisitions editor, Brook Farling came into play in a big way. He explained to me what the kind folks at Penguin/Alpha was looking for. He gave me lots of great advice on how to get the best photo.
When it came to laying the actual photo out, a good friend Minnie Thurman loaned me the cute little dishes and helped make sure every seed was in just the right location. This photo would not have happened without these two great people.
Still, I wasn’t sure the photos I took would be good enough to grace the cover. What a wonderful surprise it was today when I opened the email that contained the attachment with the photo of the front and back cover of the book. I am thrilled beyond belief. This was the icing on the cake.
The book is available for pre-order now and although the official release date isn’t until March 6, 2012 there is no reason to wait until then to place your order. The price you pay now is guaranteed not to go up once it is released. With this tough economic times, it just makes sense to get your order in now – and maybe even pre-order one for that special gardener on your list. Best of all, this book will arrive just in time for seed starting season to begin. Plus if you order it now, once seed saving season begins you will have a handy reference that tells you exactly how to save flower, fruit and vegetable seeds. Saving your own seeds saves money and you will end up with seeds that are adapted to your local growing conditions which leads to even more success in the garden in the future!

Growing herbs on a windowsill, in the yard or in a greenhouse environment can be both rewarding and challenging. There’s a whole new set of rules to learn about light exposure, pest problems, and starting seeds. Then, when you try hydroponic gardening, the learning curve can get somewhat steeper.
But once you get the hang of hydroponic gardening, it’s really worth the extra effort. After you get accustomed to adjusting the pH and regularly attending to your system, the plants will grow and flourish in a way that just doesn’t happen with soil-based plants.

When it comes to wishes the best advice is to be careful what you wish for, after all, you just might get it. While there are numerous spells designed specifically to carry your wish into the universe where the powers that be can make it come true, using herbs as well as the four elements in your spell can help to ensure its success.
It is common knowledge that herbs possess many properties including numerous magical powers. Herbs add their energy to the spell which in turn adds that extra dimension of power to all spells that they are used in.

Legends abound as to how fire came to be. They all agree that in the beginning of time humans did not have fire. Some say animals caught fire and gave it to us, some say trees caught fire and that is why you can get fire from rubbing two sticks together and still others claim fire was a gift from the Gods.
Fire rituals are a popular way of incorporating the spectacular, powerful and dynamic magic of fire into your everyday life. These rituals are able to connect people with practices that are as old as human spiritual expression.

Superstitions abound everywhere and affect every part of our lives. Many people believe that superstitions are based on truth; others simply regard them as old wives’ tales. When it comes to weddings many superstitions come to mind such as not letting the groom see the bride in the wedding dress before she walks down the aisle or that rain on your wedding day means your life will be full of tears.

With over 350 reports of people seeing this creature or being attacked by him doesn’t it stand to reason that he exists. It would seem normal to be hysterical after spotting or even being attacked by an unknown creature.

From the beginning of time it seems that man has known that water has had healing properties. However in today’s society many people think of water as nothing more than a means to quench their thirst, bathe in, clean with or put out fires. How terribly far from the truth this is. Water is one of the most important substances in the physical reality.
While there are many ways to incorporate the healing properties of water into your life, water gardening is one way that many people choose to help them get closer to the natural movement of water. Another way is to add essential oils to water or bathe with high quality herbal soaps.

There is no doubt that there is something mythical, arousing, mysterious and magical about fire. Fire is the energy of life. Fire is also nature’s cleanser. The vibrant colors licking the flames, the way the flames move about and even the wonderful warm feeling that you receive from being near an open flame all add to the mysterious aspect of this projective magical energy. Fire is said to change the environment from a mundane, common one to one of adventure and romance proving that no matter where a fire takes place it will weave its own magical spell.
The mythical aspect of fire comes from the fact that many cultures have myths and rites that relate to the origin of fire as well as to its preservation.
