Aromatherapy has been alive for centuries. It is known as a therapeutic natural practice that is commonly performed to energize, relax, and advance beauty, health, plus give the user a sense of well-being. It is considered a highly energizing and relaxing treatment. Aromatherapy works to unite or balance the body, the mind, and the spirit of those who use essential oils, leaving the person feeling calm, relaxed and revitalized. The healing practice of aromatherapy involves the use of pure essential oils in a number of ways including bathing, inhalation, and massage. It is actually derived from two words: Aroma, which means scent and Therapy, which means treatment. Aromatherapy as an energizing and relaxing treatment is said to have evolved over the centuries and is practiced across every continent. One of the most popular essential oils for relaxation is lavender oil.

Aromatherapy as an energizing and relaxing treatment primarily works in harmony with your body, as mentioned above. This is because after an aromatherapy session, your body then becomes stronger because it absorbed the complex nutrients derived from essential oils that were applied to your skin. It is worth noting that essential oils are not something synthesized in a laboratory and deprived of all their components. Plant material such as flowers, leaves or bark are distilled in order to collect the oils they naturally produce This is what makes essential oils so potent.

In the true spirit of aromatherapy as an energizing and relaxing treatment, certain ideas regarding the absorption of essential oils are highly maintained. It is commonly held that the essential oils generally have a relatively simple, small as well as lipid-soluble molecular structure that allows them to pass easily through the skin. Once the diluted essential oils are applied directly to the skin, they are then completely absorbed and penetrate deeply into the tissues, interstitial fluid and bloodstream. It is through this process that aromatherapy as an energizing and relaxing treatment is highly deemed as a powerful health option. This claim is even supported by the notion that essential oils are natural rejuvenating agents that facilitate the elimination of waste matter, including dead cells. Essential oils also work to promote the regeneration of new and healthy cells.

Given these facts, aromatherapy as an energizing and relaxing treatment is now commonly practiced in the form of massage. The essential oils are absorbed through the skin and this allows the body to use them where they enhance the natural functions of the body organs. Recently I started using lavender oil from Nature’s Own Essence. Lavender oil is one of my favorite essential oils – and one of my favorite herbs. I have smelled a lot of lavender flowers – and foliage – in my life so I know what real lavender smells like. This brand has a definite lavender smell – but the smell was not as overpowering as some of the other brands I have smelled. This is because this variety of lavender oil is made from Lavandula angustifolia which has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma. There are several different types of lavender so before you order, be sure this is the variety of lavender oil you want.

I love that this lavender essential oil is steam distilled from fresh flowering lavender tops – and that they list this information right on the label. Depending on the intended use knowing which part of the plant the essential oil was distilled from – and what the distillation method was – is important.

I use lavender essential oil all the time for stress relief and relaxation. I find the scent to be very calming and for those who do not like the stronger scented lavender oils on the market this one is ideal. I also use it in bath salts mixed with peppermint, rosemary and eucalyptus oils, A few drops on wool dryer balls makes my clothes smell great and I even add a few drops to the sachets I keep in my closet and drawers.
